Three High School Seniors Appointed to U.S. Service AcademiesFor the first time in Longwood High School history, three students have not only been appointed to three different United States Service Academies, but two have committed to play Division 1 athletics.

Nominated by Congressman Lee Zeldin, seniors Kyle Rausch, Lindsay Schuster, and Susan Yeung were nominated based on specific criteria including academic achievement, leadership skills, demonstration of character, and extracurricular activities.

Kyle Rausch will attend the U.S. Naval Academy (USNA), Annapolis, MD where he will study Mathematics with Economics.  Kyle will continue his athletic career in baseball.

Lindsay Schuster will attend the U.S. Military Academy (USMA), West Point, NY where she will pursue a degree in Political Science with a minor in Spanish.  Lindsay will play lacrosse.

Susan Yeung has accepted her appointment in the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA), Colorado Springs, CO where she will major in Legal Studies/Astronautical Engineering.

“These students are the best and brightest - academically, as future leaders in our community, and in everything, they are already accomplishing,” said Congressman Zeldin. “Their decision to use their talents to serve our nation, by attending one of the U.S. service academies, brings such pride to Long Island and our entire nation, and it is an honor to congratulate them on their great achievement this early in life.”

The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.  Graduates from service academies are in high demand, and they regularly rank in the top 15 universities and colleges for salary potential.
