Message regarding Vaping

October 24, 2019

A message from the Longwood Board of Education and Superintendent Dr. Lonergan:

Student safety and well-being is a top priority for our district. Working together, we are committed to informing you and sharing the most current information on relevant topics and trends, so we can better protect our students.

Over the past year, the use of e-cigarettes, or “vaping,” has skyrocketed across the country. We continue to provide a proactive approach in educating our students on its potential harmful chemicals and ingredients, including lead, ultra-fine particles, volatile organic compounds, and cancer-causing chemicals.  In addition, students are using vaping to smoke a form of marijuana called THC oil.  Possession of any amount of THC is illegal.

We urge our parents to speak with their children about serious health concerns, as well as the addictive nature of vaping.

We appreciate the support of our parents and community on safeguarding our students at Longwood Schools. Working together, we will continue fostering a positive, nurturing learning environment that helps our students achieve and succeed.
