BB Gun Brought Onto School Property

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR OUR LCSD SCHOOL COMMUNITY:

Earlier today, a middle school student brought a BB gun onto school property. Bringing any kind of gun, including BB or toy gun, weapon or any item that resembles a weapon, is a violation of Federal and State SAVE Legislation and the Longwood Central School District Code of Conduct.

The BB gun was immediately confiscated by school administration, and all precautionary safety measures were implemented. The student has been suspended, and disciplinary action will be taken.

All students are safe, were never in any danger, and regular classroom instruction was not disrupted.

As part of the Middle School GREAT Program, members of the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department were present during the time of the incident and are working with administration and the wellness staff to speak with students, over the next two days, about the dangers of bringing any type of weapon to school.

We commend the students that alerted their teacher of this situation. This incident reminds us of the critical phrase, “If you see something, say something.”

The safety of our school community is our utmost priority, and it is unacceptable for guns or weapons of any kind to be present on campus. We ask our parents to take this weekend to remind students that everyone plays a part in keeping our campus safe, and urge you to review the district’s code of conduct with your child, which reads as follows:

Zero-Tolerance Issues - Possession of weapons or dangerous instruments, sexual harassment, bullying, acts of bias, the use/possession/sale/distribution of drugs or alcohol, and any violations or law will not be tolerated. Local law enforcement officials will be contacted when violations of the Code of Conduct constitute a crime.
