A delegation of 50
black-shirted Italian-Americans, headed by john Finzo, president of
the Circolo Mario Morgantini, and H.M. Melinkoff, president of the
Russian-Nationalist-American League, attended the exercises.
Speakers included
Ernst Muller, president of the German-American Settlement League,
sponsors of the camp; Fritz, president of the German-American Bund,
Finzo and Melinkoff.
Muller declared:
“Much publicity has been given to our activities. It has been
charged that they were financed by foreign governments seeking to
overthrow the existing regime in the United States. These charges
are utterly untrue. They are advanced by a destructive group of
un-American elements that we have come to consider the most
dangerous menace to the future welfare of our country.”
