Superintendent of Schools

Dr. LonerganDear Parents and Residents,

A warm welcome to our students and families as we enter the 2019-20 school year.  September is a wonderful time for those of us in education because it provides us with opportunities to develop new goals, build new relationships, and embark upon new and exciting challenges.

We are proud to offer many exciting opportunities for our students at all grade levels this year, including piloting a new student assessment system at our junior high school, the development of student leaders and advocacy programs districtwide, the continuation of enriching external learning opportunities for students K-12, and the expansion of our flexible seating program.  We are increasing our 7-12 program to include opportunities for students to enter the workforce after graduation by incorporating new school-to-work experiences through our Academy Model.

As part of the community-approved Capital Improvement Initiative, construction has begun for the middle school playground, as well as the construction of the multipurpose room at the high school, and the new gym at the junior high school.  Work has begun on the STEAM lab at the middle school, and replacement of the high school windows has started.  Demolition of the trailer at Central Office is complete, and work will begin shortly on the new administrative building.

Phase three of the New York Smart Schools Bond Act will be implemented this year, starting with the rollout of Chromebooks for fifth- and ninth-grade students.  Mac computers will be updated at the high school music lab, and 3D printers and laptops will be purchased for arts and technology education. Additionally, new interactive televisions will be installed at the physical education departments at both the junior high school and high school.

The district has satisfied the New York State Comptroller’s Audit Report for a comprehensive districtwide school safety plan as part of the Safe Schools Against Violence in Education (SAVE) law enacted by New York State. As always, the safety of our students, staff, and the protection of our schools remain constant.

We recognize our responsibility to educate our students, staff, and parents on the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse and we will continue to support our school community with comprehensive alcohol and substance abuse programs through the Board of Education’s Safety Committee.

We are proud to share that our Class of 2019 graduation rate for enrolled twelfth-grade students remains an impressive 97.6 percent.  Our students continue to excel at many levels earning high achievements in academics, arts, athletics, and extracurricular activities.

Please enjoy the remaining days of summer.  We are eager for the return of our students and look forward to an exciting school year.  I wish you all a successful and enjoyable educational experience.

Sincerely,

Dr. L Signature
